Last updated on May 1, 2009

Your privacy and security are important to the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games (“SCCOG”).  Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the collection, use and possible disclosure of that information. This privacy policy applies to your use of the website located at www.SCCOG.org (the “Website”).

1. Collection and Use of Information.

Volunteer Registration
If you elect to register on the Website, including as a volunteer for SCCOG, you may be asked to provide information such as your name, address, phone number, email address and birthday, on registration forms. In addition to the uses set forth in Section 2 of this privacy policy, your registration information may also be used to contact you when necessary for customer service reasons.  Although SCCOG will use all reasonable efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of the registration information, transmissions made by means of the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be secure. SCCOG has no liability for disclosure of registration information due to errors in transmission or unauthorized acts of third parties.

Cookies
"Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Generally, cookies work by assigning to your computer a unique number that has no meaning outside of our site. Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information; we use them to provide features such as personalization, to save your member ID and to keep track of your shopping cart. We may also use cookies to assist us in delivering content specific to your interests. Additionally, after you've entered your member ID and password during a session on our service, we save that information so you don't have to re-enter it repeatedly during that session. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser to prevent that. Not accepting cookies may make certain features of the Website unavailable to you.

IP Address
When you visit the Website, we may collect IP addresses automatically for the purposes of system administration and to audit the use of our Website. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you begin service with an Internet Service Provider.  Each time you access our Website and each time you request one of our pages, our server logs your IP address.  We may use your IP address to identify you, to administer the Website, to assist in diagnosing problems with our server, to monitor our system performance and/or to make it easier and more convenient for you to navigate and use the Website.

2. Additional Uses of Information.

All of the information we collect, both what you tell us and what we collect (such as through the use of cookies), is used to personalize your account, to customize our services and to allow our representatives to contact you.  It is SCCOG's policy not to disclose to third parties any personally identifying information about you without your consent (usually obtained through an “opt-in” or "opt-out" option that you may select or deselect, as applicable, at the time that you provide the information).  SCCOG may sell, rent, share, swap or otherwise disclose to any third party the personal information that you provide via the Website unless you select to “opt-out” of such disclosures during registration.  Such information will often be disclosed on an aggregated basis (meaning that the information from many SCCOG users is grouped together).  We may also use contact information that you provide to send you information about our company and promotional or other materials from some of our commercial partners.  Again, your personal information will not be shared with such partners without your consent (such as through an “opt-in” or “opt-out” option as described above).

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, we may release your personal information to third parties: (1) to comply with valid legal requirements such as a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena or court order; or (2) in special cases, when we believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person.

3. Third Party Websites.

The Website may include links to partners, advertisers and third party Internet sites and services that may collect data in connection with registrations, promotions, e-commerce, etc.  Third party websites may also link to the Website. Any third party websites (including those linked from the Website, or linking to the Website) have separate privacy and data collection practices and SCCOG has no responsibility or liability for any third party website policies or actions and is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites nor does SCCOG make any warranties or representations about the contents, products or services offered on such websites or the security of any information you provide to them. As a result, we recommend you review the privacy policy of each of the websites you visit.

4. Changes To Our Policy.

SCCOG reserves the right to modify or supplement this privacy policy at anytime. If we make any changes, we will update the Website and privacy policy to include such change and notice thereof.  Please review this privacy policy often to review any changes that may affect your use of the Website. Your continued use of the Website once the revised privacy policy has been posted on the Website affirms your agreement to such changes.

5. Children’s Privacy Policy.

The following sets forth the website information gathering and dissemination practices of relating to information collected from children. This policy only applies to the Website and does not apply to third party websites, or to companies and persons that are not controlled, affiliated with or managed by SCCOG. The Website is not intended for use by children under age thirteen.  SCCOG will not knowingly accept information from individuals who are under thirteen years of age without first obtaining verifiable parental consent.

We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children and do not ask them to disclose such information, other than that information necessary to determine their age. If such child is thirteen or older, then they may use the Website.  However, for kids of any age, we advise parents to discuss with their children restrictions regarding the disclosure of personal information on the Internet.  From time to time, if a child under the age of thirteen accesses our site, we may request personally identifiable information such as the child's email address and/or parent's or guardian's email address in order to determine if such child has their parent’s or guardian’s permission to access our site. We will use reasonable efforts to contact the parent or guardian to confirm their permission.  We may also collect and use a child’s personal information for the sole purpose of responding to a single request by the child.  Information is collected actively, such as through registration forms, and passively, such as through cookies. All personally identifiable information collected by us from children under thirteen is securely maintained and used only for this purpose.
