SCCOG Launches Second Year of “Ready, Set, Gold!” Print E-mail

The Ready, Set, Gold! (RSG!) Program promotes student fitness and nutrition, thereby helping to fight obesity and diabetes, by pairing U.S. Olympians and Paralympians from the Los Angeles area with local public schools. Operating under the auspices of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games (SCCOG), the Olympians visit their designated schools multiple times, encouraging and inspiring goal setting and overall physical fitness, all while aiming to improve each student’s state-mandated Fitnessgram test scores. Currently operating in 50 LAUSD Schools, RSG! plans to expand into more LAUSD schools and neighboring districts.

“Ready, Set, Gold!” began operation in September 2006. For 2007-08, it is a continuing opportunity for the world’s largest concentration of Olympic and Paralympic athletes to make a signal contribution to the larger community, and be recognized for their long-term commitment to youth.  It is the first program of its kind in the country and is raising funds to allow for expansion of the program during the 2007-2008 school year.

Statement Regarding USOC Decision on U.S. Applicant City For 2016 Olympic Games Print E-mail

The Los Angeles 2016 Olympic bid has been an extraordinary experience and undertaking.  We would like to thank the United States Olympic Committee and congratulate our colleagues from Chicago.  We are confident they will represent the United States in the International campaign with the same professionalism and the dignity they showed throughout this process.

While we are disappointed Los Angeles will not move into the International round, we are pleased that the bid process has fostered unprecedented, bipartisan support from our civic leaders at the City, County, State and Federal levels.  We are also grateful for the tremendous effort and cooperation from the business and community leaders who have driven the process and countless Southern California Olympians and Paralympians who have aided our cause.  Those Olympians will continue to be integral to a legacy of this bid process, the Ready, Set, Gold! health and fitness program which will continue to operate in schools throughout the region.

On behalf of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, we pledge our continued commitment to the Olympic movement and efforts to bring the Games to the United States.
